Dear Colleague,
We would like to invite you to become a part of the
24th Hawai‘i Association of Language Teachers (HALT) Conference
on March 20, 2010. The theme
for this conference is Innovations in Language
Teaching.
Have you developed an innovative course, teaching technique, or materials that
you could share? Are you evaluating the effectiveness of your teaching
curriculum? Have you implemented a study abroad program? Would you
like to lead a panel discussion on a critical issue in your target language
or in the area of elementary, secondary, or higher education?
This year's conference promises to be really exciting as we return to the
Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies, UH Manoa, on Dole Street,
one of our attendees’ favorite locations. This beautiful facility
offers an open air setting for the keynote and lunch as well as state-of-the-art
presentation rooms.
HALT is honored to have Christine Lanphere, the
2007 ACTFL National Language Teacher of the Year, as our keynote
speaker. She is a French teacher at Natomas High School in Sacramento,
CA and currently serves on the California State Curriculum and Supplementary
Materials Commission. The title of her talk will be “Striving
to Do Our Best as Language Educators in Challenging Times.”
Understanding that we are in challenging economic times,
the HALT Executive Board has decided this year to waive one conference registration
per accepted proposal. (So, if there is only one presenter for
an accepted proposal, his/her registration will be free. If there are
a number of co-presenters for an accepted proposal, they will choose which one
is to receive the free registration).
In addition to the exciting program and our annual publishers’ exhibit,
we will also announce our Excellence in Teaching Award winner. To find
out further details or to nominate a deserving colleague, visit
halthome.org/Awards.
So, make the decision to present that great idea of yours at the 2010 HALT Conference.
Proposals should be submitted online by February 5, 2010 using the online form
below. Proposal writing resources are also available on this webpage.
See you at the HALT Conference on March 20, 2010!
